Around twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland were left experiencing outages on the start of the week after intense storm systems impacted the region, generating strong winds reaching 109km/h.

Large Hailstones and Widespread Damage

Locals observed substantial frozen pellets as large as 7 centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that different parts across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore power throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams activated to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victoria's Weather Woes

Simultaneously, nearly one thousand energy customers in Victoria also faced power outages after the metropolitan area recorded its most precipitation in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to over five hundred requests for assistance across the state, mainly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

Hardest Hit Regions

• The Werribee area - recorded substantial destruction
• Hoppers Crossing suburb - numerous assistance requests
• Wyndham area - 179 emergency requests

At one point on Sunday, in excess of 28k energy customers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were forecast to persist along large portions of eastern Queensland this coming days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with continued thunderstorm potential expected across multiple regions of both areas.

Safety Concern

Public health experts warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the ongoing climate situation.

This warning comes after past events where analogous circumstances led to major medical consequences in the state.
