Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
